Using 'no longer' and 'anymore'

In this lesson you practiced saying things that have stopped (using 'no longer' and 'anymore') and reviewed simple past movement verbs. The tutor corrected sentence order and negatives and you practiced short spoken examples to build accuracy and fluency.

Expressing stopped actions

  • Practiced sentences with 'I no longer...' and 'do you no longer...?'
  • Corrected word order: 'She no longer lives here' not 'She live no longer'
  • Replaced incorrect negatives with 'I don't... anymore' when needed

Using 'anymore' and 'any more'

  • Practiced questions: 'Do you want any more cake?' versus 'anymore' for negatives
  • Tutor highlighted difference in positive quantity vs. negative time usage
  • Drilled short answers: 'I don't want any more' and 'I don't watch TV anymore'

Past movement verbs and phrasal patterns

  • Practiced verbs: 'walked to', 'drove to', 'flew from' with correct prepositions
  • Corrected particle placement: 'took the phone out of her pocket' example
  • Worked on simple past forms and short storytelling fluency

Para recordar

No longer and anymore

“No longer” usually appears before the main verb; “anymore” and “any longer” commonly appear in negative sentences and questions, usually at the end. Ejemplos

  • She no longer lives here.
  • I don’t eat chocolate anymore.
Past simple verbs

Use the past simple for completed actions in the past; regular verbs often take -ed, while irregular verbs have special forms. Ejemplos

  • We walked to the café.
  • The child ran toward her mother.
Movement prepositions

Use movement prepositions to show origin, destination, direction, entry, or exit: from, to, toward, into, and out of. Ejemplos

  • The ball rolled toward the window.
  • She took her phone out of her pocket.
Apuntes de la clase en español

Correcciones, pronunciación y práctica preparadas a partir de esta clase. No las escribió tu profesora.

Patrones y correcciones

  • Con verbos principales, no longer va antes del verbo: She no longer lives here. Después de be o un modal, va tras ese verbo: We are no longer neighbours; I can no longer stay.
  • Anymore y any longer suelen cerrar una negación o pregunta: I don’t watch TV anymore; Do you work there any longer?
  • Any more separado expresa cantidad adicional: Do you want any more cake? Mantener la diferencia entre anymore (tiempo/cambio) y any more (cantidad).
  • Evitar doble negación: I no longer live there o I don’t live there anymore, no I don’t no longer live there.
  • En el repaso de movimiento: walk to, fly from, run toward, take something out of a pocket. Usar into para entrar y out of para salir.
  • El comentario automático propone I’m not eating para una frase original truncada I don't eat eating.
